3 Keys to Diesel Engine Maintenance

3 Keys to Diesel Engine Maintenance

Your diesel engine is a significant investment. Whether you use it for your daily commute and the occasional weekend trip or push and haul large loads daily, you want to make sure your investment is going to last. Assuring your rig has regular maintenance is key to ensuring it runs smoothly and lasts as long as possible no matter its daily tasks. This doesn’t mean, though, that taking it to a mechanic regularly is the only thing you can do. Just like a yearly visit to the doctor isn’t enough to keep your body healthy, you should persevere in your engine care at home as well. Try these three suggestions to make certain your engine stays healthy before its next visit to the mechanic, or maybe avoid an unexpected one altogether.

1. Keep Things Clean

Routinely check your engine’s oil between scheduled oil changes. If your engine is underperforming and your oil is looking pretty dark, you may need to change it sooner than you thought. Another key to keeping your engine clean is to use a FASS to ensure that there is no air in your fuel. Having air in your fuel lines will take your engine from peak performance to break-down very quickly.

2. Keep Things Flowing

The fluids that run through your rig stay clean longer because the filters they pass through remove the grime and rust that can collect in them. Be sure that the fuel, oil, and air filters are checked and changed as often as needed to maintain effectiveness.

3. Keep Things Cool

Coolant is often forgotten until it becomes an issue. This should be checked and changed frequently to avoid it becoming acidic. The radiator depends on this coolant to operate smoothly and acidic coolant can damage it and other parts of your engine quickly.

Maintaining your diesel engine is something you take seriously. Don’t wait for your regular oil change, or an issue to arise, to keep up the regular care of your vehicle.
